Bullying should not be tolerated at all in our public schools and I am glad that our school district is working hard to eliminate all bullying behaviors. They made a smart move when they gave each of the rising 7th graders a copy of James Preller’s Book, Bystander, and asked them to read it over the summer and be ready to discuss it in the fall. This book is so well written and aimed specifically for the Middle School aged students. I highly recommend Bystander by James Preller.

Kimberly’s Flight is a book that tells the story of Captain Kimberly Hampton who died in Iraq when her helicopter was shot down. She was only 27 years old and was the first woman killed in combat in the history of the United States of America.
This book is written by Anna Simon and by Kimberly’s mother, Ann Hampton. It is written as if Ann is telling the story of her daughter and her genuine thoughts are backed up with emails and quotes from Kimberly’s friends and fellow soldiers. It is inspiring and a beautiful tribute to a beautiful young woman.
The last part of the book explains how Ann and her husband, Dale, have coped with the loss of their only child. Ann has made two humanitarian trips to Iran as part of her involvement in the American Gold Star Mothers program. She and Dale have found healing by continuing to maintain their daughter’s legacy.
I will be remembering Kimberly’s sacrifice as well as her parents sacrifice this Memorial Day. I now have a much better understanding of the military and their families after reading this book and will remember all those who have died for our country and all of those who have fought and those who are fighting.
God Bless the USA!

I saw a post on facebook by my old friend, John Sitton aka Sittonbull, about a friend of his who had published his second novel and was offering a free Kindle download. Now, I am not one to turn down anything that is free so I downloaded it and went to the author’s facebook page and requested a friendship. I mentioned to Sittonbull that I might want to create a Squidoo page about his friend’s book if he was interested. One thing led to another and I created this page: The Moralist by John Warley. John was fun to work with and provided me with pictures and even did an interview via email. He began replying to the comments and enjoying the Clustr Map that I had posted on the page. He decided that he wanted one of those on his website and did it.
The next thing I knew, he emailed me to say that he had registered for Squidoo and was working on his first lens. I was so excited. He is JohnWarley on Squidoo and his first lens is Writing in Mexico.
Stop by if you get a chance and meet Author John Warley!

I have had fun creating Valentine’s on Zazzle and hope to create many more. I am not a Graphic Artist by any means and have a lot to learn about Zazzle but I sure had fun trying.
This is one of my designs with flowers and butterflies made out of hearts. Even the body of the butterflies are hearts that have been smushed up.
The next design is a patchwork type design. I have never been very handy with a needle and thread but do enjoy painting stitches.
There are others but I did want to show you one of my favorites. I just had to have a Valentine with our dog, Bruno’s picture on it. I would like to have a whole series of Bruno Cards but he doesn’t like to have his picture made. We will have to work on that, for sure! This one is a postcard.
If you would like to see more of my Valentine Designs, I have them posted on http://www.squidoo.com/valentines-day-cards-and-gifts.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Valentine’s Day!

After reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, I knew that I would want to recommend it to others. It is one of those books that rarely comes around that is filled with such emotion, inspiration, truth, and thought. It is the story of Louis Zamperini, who went from a Juvenile Delinquent to an Olympic runner to a WWII POW to an inspirational speaker. His story is told by the very talented author of Seabiscuit and a story that I am glad I read.

Shrimp Boats at Edisto SC
I do love Shrimp Boats – I enjoy photographing them, painting them and just looking at them. I am not sure what it is but I think it is because they have such character and are relaxing to watch.
I created a lens with lots of Shrimp Boat photos and several videos for the Summer Sunshine Award Contest to benefit Friends of the Park.

I sure would appreciate your visit and nomination for the contest.

Squidoo is going to give away $99 a day for 60 days to a charity and to a lensmaster. This is going to be so much fun!
Posted via web from ohme’s posterous
Friends of the Park is an approved Squidoo Charity so we have a chance to be a winner more than once. Lensmasters are asked to create a lens after May 1, 2010 and opt to donate 100% of their royalties to an approved charity. That means that Friends of the Park will be receiving 100% of the royalties from every lens that is created on it’s behalf. The lenses can be about anything but must be nominated by submitting this new nomination form:
Nomination Form For Squidoo’s Summer Sunshine Award Contest For Charity
To date we have 13 lenses donating 100% of their royalties to Pendleton’s Friends of the Park and I anticipate this list to grow. If you would like to see our Veterans Park be a winner, then please nominate each of these lenses. You can only nominate a lens once but you may nominate as many lenses as you would like. Please visit these lenses and leave a comment by choosing “visitor” in the comment section.
Or maybe you would like to join Squidoo and create lenses of your own. It is lots of fun and I will be glad to help you get started.
Here are the lenses in Squidoo’s Summer Sunshine Award Contest for Charity designated for Friends of the Park.
