Why Have I Rated Over 5,000 Lenses?

There are several reasons why I believe that reading and rating other’s lenses is important to me and here they are:
1. My Duty As A Member of Squidoo – Yes, I feel that it is my duty as a part of the wonderful Squidoo Community to give back by reading and rating lenses. It is my way to give back to this community that gives me so much.
2. To Learn From Others- Not only do I learn new information from reading lenses but I also get new ideas on constructing my own lenses.
3. I Enjoy Reading Squidoo Lenses and getting to know other Lensmasters

I only rate lenses that I think are really great so this means that I have found over 5,000 really great lenses to read.

Have you seen the advertisement for Bing where the gal is on Information Overload? Sometimes I feel just like this but most of the time I am wishing that I was retaining more than I do and I am working on that. When I first joined Squidoo, I had written in the forum that I felt like I needed to keep a notebook of “Things I have learned on Squidoo” so I could write down something new I have learned from each lens I read. Of course, this got a lot of comments like “there is one in every class”, etc. I realized how crazy that must have sounded to anyone else but quite frankly, I wish that I had done it.

I will be listening to someone talk about some bizarre subject or product and I chime in with “Oh, I just read about that on a Squidoo lens” but if you asked me specifics, I probably couldn’t tell you much.

Maybe I will start my notebook for the next 5,000.

As long as Lensmasters continue to write such excellent lenses, I will continue to read and rate and enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Squidoo Lensmasters! Please keep those lenses coming so I can continue to:
-Travel the globe
-Laugh, Cry and be totally entertained with your personal stories
-Read about people, places and things that I would have never known about
-Get new recipes for some delicious dishes
-See pictures of animals and plants that I never knew existed
-Attend Festivals and Special Events all around the world
-Learn about new products
-Get to know some of the most amazing people in the world – the Squidoo Lensmasters

Here are my stats on October 19, 2009:
OhMe, aka Nancy Hellams, has been a member since July 18 2008, has rated 5,005 lenses, favorited 4,034, and has created 73 lenses from scratch.

Thank you Face Book and Squidoo

Momtothezoo and Ohme

Momtothezoo and Ohme

There are millions of stories out there about renewed friendships due to Face Book and this is mine.

I received a note from my Pendleton Old Photos lens from someone named Jeanie Hunt. She said that she had seen the post on Face Book and that she grew up in Pendleton. After several emails back and forth, I discovered that she was Jeanie Sims and that her family had purchased our home in Pendleton when we moved in 1963. I remembered her but did not know her very well as she was younger than me. We enjoyed emailing back and forth and sharing our Pendleton Memories. That is when I decided to start the Pendleton Memories Series. Jeanie’s contribution was the first one with Growing Up in Pendleton SC in the 50’s by Jeanie Sims Hunt.

I discovered that Jeanie is a very talented writer and had even published a book.  She mailed me a copy of her book and I talked to her about joining Squidoo. She seemed interested and I talked her through signing up and getting started. She is known as Momtothezoo and now has published 10 wonderful lenses.

Jeanie lives in Florida and recently came back to Pendleton for a Family Reunion. She and her husband met me for lunch on the square at Pendleton Cafe and Coffees and we had such a wonderful visit. I am looking forward to her returning soon!

We only have a couple more weeks for this challenge which will be over the end of September and I will be adding any others that are published before the end of the month.

These ladies are all extremely busy and I think they have done a fine job producing some exceptional lenses during the challenge. Everyone just did the best they could and there was no pressure which was nice. Carol will be going for Giant this round and we wish her a lot of luck. I am sure the others will be following in future rounds and I look forward to hearing about their 50th lens.

Way to Go!

Many Thanks To Michey for all the work she does on her Squidoo Event Log which made my job here much, much easier.  Michey records all the lenses for each lensmaster that are published weekly.  I sure appreciate the tremendous amount of work this is for her.  Thank you, Michey!

Pat Conroy’s New Novel – South of Broad

Pat Conroy is such a talented writer and I do love all of his books and thoroughly enjoy reading them. I have enjoyed the movies that have been made from his books, too. Prince of Tides starring Barbara Streisand and Nick Nolte has to be my favorite.
I went ahead and published my lens even though I have not read the book yet. You see, I am saving it to read while at the beach next month – that is, if I can wait that long.

Pat Conroy was a fun lens to make because I read and listened to all the reviews that I could find and there were really some great ones.
The story takes place in Charleston South Carolina. The people living South of Broad Street were called SOBS and the people living Slightly North of Broad Street were called SNOBS – just little local trivia!

I had gone to Pat Conroy’s website and contact Doubleday asking for permission to use Pat Conroy’s photography on my lens. They were kind enough to send me the photo and a press release but said that he would not do an email interview. Oh well, I tried. I did ask Doubleday if they thought he would be interested in coming to Pendleton for our Fall Harvest Festival and have a Book Signing. She never responded but I haven’t given up yet. Evidently, he is not having many book signings or interviews but has already been on Good Morning America and some other shows. Who knows! Maybe he would love to come to Pendleton. I sure don’t know why not.

Toys, Toys and More Toys

The assignment for the first week in Session 3 of Rocket Moms is to write a selling lens about Toys. I love toys so have enjoyed reading some really great lenses. This link list all the Rocket Mom Toy Lenses as they are published and added to the plexo:
Rocket Moms Toy Lenses

I wrote mine about Spinning Toy Tops and it was a fun lens to do. In fact, it made me want to do another toy lens about Jack in the Boxes. Maybe later. I have two to finish up over the weekend.

Today I will work on my Writing Spider lens which means I have to go take some pictures so hope the rain yesterday didn’t wash him away.

Busy, Busy Summer

Yes, this was a very busy summer but a great one. We were able to take two trips with our 9 year old grandson and that made them extra special. I wrote a lens about our Our Florida Vacation. We also went to Washington DC and the best part about that was that we got to visit with our son and daughter in law who have recently moved there. They were so good to show us all the sights. We had reservations for a tour of the Capitol through Senator Graham’s Regional Office and were so glad we did. It was wonderful.

Other than trips and Freedom Fest, I enjoyed going to our local Pendleton Farmers Market and now am working on promoting our Fall Harvest Festival.

My grandson and I enjoyed our tradition of dying Queen Anne’s Lace and we had a great visit from my cousin and I surprised her with a big Fruit Salad when she first arrived.

Well, now I know where my time has gone. I seem to have a lens about everything we did this summer. Oh me! I didn’t mention the big event that I finally made Giant Squid and was so excited. I just had to write a lens to thank everyone for all the help they gave me during My First Year On Squidoo.
