Kate Salley Palmer – Author, Illustrator, and Former Political Cartoonist

I have known Kate and her husband for sometime and thoroughly enjoy all of Kate’s books. That is why I wanted to write a lens about them. Kate Salley Palmer is a very talented author and illustrator. Her stories are so very heart warming and are enjoyable for all ages.

At one time, Kate was a Political Cartoonist and to me that is miles apart from what she does today. As a Political Cartoonist she had to be well read on the subject but as an author she writes from the heart. It is so easy for me to put myself into one of her characters and feel like I am actually living her books. Her illustrations are so fun and lifelike. I don’t know how she does it but her characters do seem real with real emotions that you can actually see while reading. When I finish one of her books, I immediately want to go out and tell everyone I know about it because I know that they would enjoy it, too! They are delightful!

Kate Salley Palmer also writes about South Carolina and I firmly believe that these books should be required reading in every public school in our state. Her son, James, has done illustrations for some of these books. I know these must have required a lot of research and that is a recognized fact while reading.

Please visit my lens Kate Salley Palmer and learn more about her work. I think you will be glad you did.

Thank you.

Spring Jubilee In Pendleton SC

Every year we look forward to Spring Jubilee in our historic town of Pendleton South Carolina.  It is always held the first weekend in April so this year it will be April 4 and 5.  I watch the dogwoods surrounding our Village Green from the time they bud until they are in bloom hoping and praying that they will be in full bloom by Jubilee.  This is a time that we show off our town to over 20,000 visitors who come to see the talented artisans and entertainers and eat some delicious food.

Spring Jubilee is organized by the Pendleton District Commission and Jo McConnell is the one in charge.  As Events Coordinator for Pendleton District Commission, she makes sure that it is a top notch juried Arts and Crafts Festival.  This awarding winning festival is well known for it’s high quality.  This has not always been an easy task for Jo and she is to be commended for her determination to keep it that way.  There are approximately 300 applicants who each think they deserve the coveted 90 spaces.  The selection process is very strict and only the best are accepted by the committee.

I have made a lens about Spring Jubilee and dedicated it to Jo.

Congratulations to GrowWear aka MiMi on winning the First Quarter 09 Carolina Finest Award. MiMi just recently joined our group of South Carolinians and South Carolina lenses and we are so proud that she chose to be a part of us. MiMi has done some beautiful lenses including her most recent tribute to another South Carolinian, Joan Adams. MiMi is well known around Squidoo and you can catch her on Twitter or on her Squidoo Lens Review. She is always thinking of ways to recognize other lensmasters so it seems only appropriate that we recognize her with this honor as the First Quarter 2009 Recipient of the South Carolina Group’s Carolina’s Finest. Congratulations MiMi.

Wow, What a day!

This has sure been an exciting day for my sisters and me. Our Squidoo friend, GrowWear has written the most beautiful lens about my sister, Joan. She had contacted my other sister, Betty, and me and asked us some questions about her. We have been patiently waiting for email to tell us that she had it finished. Wow, it is beautiful and Joan was so shocked, thrilled and honored. I hope if you are reading this blog that you will take the time to read this very special lens about a very special lady, my sister!
Be Positive Like Joan Adams

Thank you GrowWear for this lens. You are amazing!

My Favorite Sunday School Songs

My first lens of 2009 is about My Favorite Sunday School Songs. I have such fond memories of Sunday School and although I was not blessed with any musical talent, I do love to sing. It is just that nobody really enjoys hearing me sing except the Good Lord and children who are too young to know any better. I still enjoy it. I remember when I was very young and we had a little choir and were rehearsing for a program. I really got into the songs and if the teacher told us to sing louder, I just bellowed it out. Well, I guess my bellowing didn’t sound too good or either the teacher thought I was being sacreligious because I was told that my pretty face was needed in the sanctuary. Does that make sense to you? I went home and looked in the mirror and decided that something was definitely wrong. My mom explained to me that she imagined the teacher did not understand that I was singing from the heart and did not mean to sing so loud that the other children could not be heard. I still think about that day but guess I don’t worry too much about it since I still enjoying singing even if it is in an empty room.

My Favorite Sunday School Songs is only just some of my favorites as I have many and hope to add to this lens as time goes on. I would love to get permission from the parents of our church children and video them singing. There is just something very special about hearing the children’s voices no matter what they sound like.

I hope this lens brings back some fond memories for you, too!
